The Damariscotta - Why is it Called a River?
The coast of Maine is  made up of numerous long inlets and estuaries that are called
“rivers”, although they are salt water.  The Damariscotta River is one of them.  From
the entrance to Clifford’s Cove, which is at the mouth of the "river", one looks out
directly to open ocean.
