GREAT FOR BIG FAMILIES

I’ve stayed at Clifford House a number of summers in a row, with different mixes of my
brothers, cousins, and their spouses. The thing I like about this place is, it has two
“units” (connected by a hall), each one has its own living room and kitchen, so
everyone can “do their own thing” on their own schedule. Not to mention a big
screened-in porch with great views. The lawns are so big, you can have croquet,
volleyball, and Frisbee-throwing all at once, with room to spare. And there’s an
interesting set of books in one of the hallways. And then, of course, it’s got a dock.
What’s not to like?

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION, PERFECT VACATION SPOT!

I was lucky enough to spend a week at Clifford House this past August and enjoyed
every second! The house itself is beautiful, well kept, and has plenty of space for any
activity we desired, whether it was cocktails on the porch, cooking dinner in one
or both kitchens, or just relaxing with coffee in the sunny breakfast nook. We
were lucky enough to have spectacular weather throughout our stay and spent
plenty of time enjoying the view out on the dock. South Bristol itself was lovely to
bike or run around (although watch out, there are plenty of hills to keep you
guessing!), and is the perfect amount of relaxed/off the tourist path without feeling
like being in the middle of nowhere. There was also plenty to do in the surrounding
area - the Boothbay Botanical Gardens were a beautiful attraction, and Pemequid
Point may be my new favorite place on earth with it's spectacular rock formations and
crashing waves! We also enjoyed checking out local breweries in Boothbay and on
Monhegan Island and eating our way through plenty of seafood. I would absolutely
recommend staying here to anyone looking for a getaway - this house is truly a gem -
would love to return for another stay in the future!!

OUR FAVORITE SUMMER LOCATION!

We feel that the Clifford House is our Maine home! We have been going there for
the last 5 years and look forward to it each year. Each year we find another thing to
love, kickball on the large lawn, a talent show in the living room, kayak races to the
Gut, fishing off the dock and of course enjoying lobster and family while watching a
beautiful sunset. We have kids of all ages from 6 to 76 and everyone loves their time.
If you want to spend an amazing week with your family in a beautiful corner of the
world, then I highly recommend the Clifford House. We are counting the days until we
get back!

CLIFFORD HOUSE

We have spent a week at the Clifford House each summer for the last four years.
The house is clean, charming and so Maine. The beautiful yard is expansive and
perfect for young and old to play games or enjoy the magnificent view. The dock is
great for fishing and water sports. The children love to walk to the local stores and
restaurant. Pemaquid, a beautiful beach and swimming location is only 15 minutes
away. We have no qualms about highly recommending the experience of a stay at
the Clifford House.

LOVE THIS PLACE!

My husband and I, who live in Maine, have spent our summer vacation week (or
sometimes 2 weeks) at the Clifford House in South Bristol, Maine, every summer
for the past TEN years. This fact alone will tell you how much we like it there. The
house, large lawn, dock and small beach area are perfect for us and our three kids.
We sometimes have other family or friends visit and stay overnight and there is
plenty for room for that. The owners are wonderful people who are always helpful
and informative. The area is beautiful and the whole experience is extremely relaxing,
which is why we choose to spend our time there year after year.

OUTSTANDING HOME FOR PERFECT MAINE VACATION.

We have stayed at the Clifford House several times over the past 10 years and have
enjoyed every visit to the utmost. It is a magical place ....plenty of room for two
families or a multigenerational gathering. Terrific location for exploring the Pemaquid
area or just relaxing on the property with the beautiful water view as a backdrop.
Great kayaking and fishing right from the dock. The Turners are accommodating and
gracious hosts. A real find.

EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR LARGE FAMILY GATHERING

Centrally located in what we would consider "Old Maine", this was the perfect fit for
our family of 7 adults. Our family is close but we also enjoy our space and that was
satisfied with two kitchens, two living areas and bedrooms spaced about the house,
not to mention the large property for outside fun.

We found the house to be fully equipped with everything we needed. We like to dine
out but we also like to cook and never wanted for anything.

My husband enjoyed casting off the pier where he caught mullet at high tide receding
and tossed them back to live another day. We gathered on the pier at sunset to enjoy
the brilliant colors and searched the beach for treasures at low tide.

The Boothbay area botanical garden was a great trip where everything was in full
bloom, we took pictures and ideas home with us. Also spent a day at Pemaquid Point
lighthouse, rock outcroppings and gorgeous beach.

It was a short drive to New Harbor where we took the ferry to Monhegan Island, no
cars are allowed and history dates back to John Smith. We hiked the paths and
climbed rocks and when we were hot and exhausted we came around a bend and
found a brewery, of all things. They served cold beer in real glasses, none of that
throwaway plastic! It was great!. Some of the group continued on to the Puffin Cruise
and were not disappointed.

We found a great fish market and other tourist stuff in Demariscotta but for the most
part we enjoyed the small businesses within walking distance of our house.

We cooked lobsters just one night and then decided we preferred the Fisherman's
Co-op to steam them for us while we sat on their dock (BYOB) and enjoyed watching
the fishermen prep their boats or unload the catch of the day.

All in all it was an excellent stay at the Clifford House, the perfect owners friendly and
helpful but never intrusive. It's a bit of a trip from our home in Wisconsin but hope to
return again in the future. Thank you John and family!

WONDERFUL PLACE FOR A FAMILY VACATION

Our family had a wonderful stay at Clifford House. The property was just as described.
The owners are nearby and very helpful but never intrude. The grounds are extensive
and beautiful. Kids absolutely love it because there's so much to do without leaving the
property. We would definitely recommend it to friends.

CAN'T RECOMMEND HIGHLY ENOUGH

We have rented the Clifford house for 3 separate weeks over the last decade or so
and each visit we had a wonderful time. On our first visit we had our wedding there,
with a big canopy out on the huge lawn, live music, and a lobster bake! Our other two
visits have been purely for vacation.

The house has so many bedrooms and bathrooms that we can always bring along
friends and family, and it's big enough that everyone can relax with plenty of room to
do their own thing. There are 2 wings to the house each with its own kitchen and living
area, and a huge screened-in porch with a sitting area and also a big picnic table
overlooking the beautiful yard and cove view. The porch is great for hanging out,
enjoying the breeze, having a big dinner with family, friends, etc.

The house is in a very quiet location and very private. The owners are very friendly
and accommodating but also leave you be. They usually stroll by on your first or
second day there to introduce themselves and make sure everything is OK, but other
than that they will give you as much privacy as you want. It never feels like you're
being watched (which is different than some other rentals I have experienced.)

Down the path through the giant field of wild flowers there's a dock with kayaks and
bracing Maine water for anyone brave enough to swim. In late July and August
phosphorescent algae cause the night water to sparkle and glow when you run your
hand (or a paddle) through it. The air is cool and the sunlight is amazingly clear even
at the height of summer, when the rest of the country is baking in heat and humidity.
It's a wonderful place.
